College career
Salyers played college basketball at Samford University with the Samford Bulldogs from 1997–01.

Pro career

Salyers began his professional career in Italy in the 2001-02 season, signed by Cimberlo Novara. He moved to Turkey for the 2003-04 season, signed by Oyak Renault B.K. In April 2004, he moved to France, signed by Pau-Orthez.

He returned to Turkey for the 2004-05 season, signed by Fenerbahçe Istanbul. He next moved toFrance for the 2005-06 season, signed by Gravelines-Dunkerque. He then went to Korea in November 2005, signed by Busan KTF Magicwings.

" We will not take out anybody, like Fadi El Khatib or Roni Fahed, but we will give them some rest especially the guys that are in Asia right now.

MANILA, Philippines (22nd FIBA Asia Champions Cup): Al Riyadi Beirut reserved their best for the end and unleashed a 20-9 run in the final ten minutes – including a 8-3 advantage in the Overtime – to beat last year’s runners-up Al Rayyan 78-73 in a needle Group B game on Tuesday.

Rodrigue Akl (dark jersey in pic above), on loan from Anibal for this competition, capped a 12-6 Riyadi run in the final five minutes to lock the game at 70-all at the end of Regulation time.

And in the extended period, Akl pulled down three of Riyadi’s defensive rebounds to deny Rayyan any extra room.

“Am I lucky to have thought of borrowing him!” wondered Riyadi coach Fouad Abouchakra.

“In these two games, he (Akl) has been a real worthy,” he added connecting Akl’s contribution to regular point guard Ali Mahmoud’s absence – due to a sore back – in the last two games.

“Like yesterday (when Riyadi beat defending champions Mahram 76-73), my team played a lot together. They stood up for each other when chips were down, and I think that was the key to our win today,” he added.

Down by six points – by 9 at one point in time in the second quarter – Riyadi did more than well to hold their own.

“We missed out on their offensive rebounds,” bemoaned Rayyan coach Brian Rowsom.

Riyadi had a 21-13 offense rebound advantage – in an overall 50-37 boards.

Ismail Ahmad led Riyadi’s scoring with 24 points, including 4 in the Overtime.

The Egyptian also had a dozen rebounds.

“It was a very physical game, especially after last night’s game it was a struggle for us,” Ahmad said.

“This is a lesson for us not to drop our guard. But I thought we lost a one-ball game,” said Rowsom.

After Akl had tied the score, Rayyan had 15.3 secs on the clock, but the Rowsom’s men chose to go to the perimeter to attempt, from where Omer Salem managed only to hit the rim.

“Well, you get some and you don’t get some. Can’t really do much wasting sleep on that. We gotta prepare for tomorrow,” said Rowsom.

Rayyan take on defending champions Mahram – who rested on Tuesday – on the morrow with Riyadi lining up against Al Jala’a.

MANILA, Philippines (22nd FIBA Asia Champions Cup): Iranian defending champions Mahram and fellow WABA giants Al Riyadi Beirut, as expected, set the PhilSports Arena ablaze with some scintillating, spine-tingling and stimulating show of superlative basketball before the latter scraped through by the skin of their teeth 76-73 in a Group B game on Monday.

American Chris Williams scored a mammoth 32-point game-high and Samad Nikkhah Bahrami had an 18-point game but no other Mahram player scored in the double digit!

Fadi El Khatib, borrowed from Champville for this competition, led Riyadi’s scoring with 25 points and imports Ismail Ahmad and Loren Woods did their jobs to perfection.

Ahmad, an Egyptian, returning to the Riyadi colors after a two-year break scored 14 points and collected a game-high 15 rebounds.

And American Woods, who played a stellar role in Mahram’s title triumph last year, had 10 points and as many rebounds.

Mahram did well to pull back from a seemingly slipping situation when they went down by 9 points early in the fourth quarter, but let things slip through their fingers at the crunch moment.

Williams brought the score close to 71-74 with his customary drive in the lane and Mahdi Kamrani further reduced the margin catching the rival defense completely on the wrong foot, but committed a foul bringing El Khatib to the foul-line.

The seasoned campaigner of many a battle against Mahram missed the two free-throws, but Ahmad grabbed the rebound and relayed it back to El Khatib, who drew a foul on Hamed Afagh.

This time El Khatib proved too experienced to squander the opportunity.

Riyadi seemed to nudge ahead with a 7-0 run and closed the first quarter 10 points ahead, only to see Mahram return in kind scoring the first 10 points of the second quarter to bring parity.

The game went back into a thrilling phase of even exchanges and equal scoring till Riyadi made their move again in the fourth quarter and clinch the game.

Riyadi opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 spree with youngster Rodrigue Akl – on loan from Anibal – leading the charge and Ismail Ahmad played true to his reputation which game Riyadi a 12-point lead.

Again it was the turn of Mahram to hit back and take the game to the wire, but the Iranians fell at the post.

The spearheads of either side acknowledged Riyadi’s blazing start giving the advantage.

“I think we gave them the advantage early on,” bemoaned Bahrami.

“And I think that helped us put pressure early on and maintain it,” agreed Khatib.

“A game against Mahram is never easy, we knew that. I think we were hungrier tonight,” Khatib went on.

“Like I said earlier, we are here to win the title. So every win against any team is only a step closer in that direction as far as we are concerned,” Khatib said.

Riyadi coach Fouad Abouchakra, was however, concerned about the lack of assists.

“I think we need to spread the ball more,” he said. Riyadi had 8 assists over 2 steals as against Mahram’s 13 assists over 4 steals.

“Missing some crucial shots at the end of the game proved vital. There’s nothing more to say about such a great game,” Mahram’s assistant coach Mohammed Kasseipour, standing in for head coach Mehran Shahintab.

It was pay back time for the Atlantic conference at the 2010/2011 DStv Premier Basketball League All-Star Game as Savannah conference ran away with an 86-73 (24-19, 16-19, 23-17, 23-18) points victory at the Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday.

The Savannah conference coached by the duo of Coaches Sani Ahmed of Kano Pillars and Sani Turi of Kada Stars won three out of the four quarters to reclaim the All-Star Game title having lost by 82-93 points in the 2009/2010 season in kaduna.

Savannah conference and reigning DStv PBL most valuable player, Abubakar Usman led the floor with 32 points, 4 rebounds and two assists to retain the MVP tittle he won last year while his teammate Ibrahim Yusuf contributed 10 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists for the Savannah conference win of the night.

Mohammed Bukar led the Atlantic conference in scoring with 17 points with Azuoma Dike and Musa Usman contributing 14 and 11 points respectively.

The Three-Point shooting contest was won by Yelwa Hawks basketball club of Bauchi Combo-guard, Timothy Terry who scored 17 of the 25 balls within 60 seconds time allocated each of the contestants while Godwin Ikonshul of the Dodan Warriors basketball club displayed a rare skill with a superb dunk to win the Slam-Dunk contest with 48-point.

Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, Joseph Hundah, praised the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for making the ALL-STAR Weekend a permanent feature of the federation annual programme.

He reiterated the sponsor commitment to the continuous sponsorship and development of basketball in Nigeria.

The event was graced by top sports personalities with Dorector of Sport Development of the National Sports Commission, Al-Hassan Yakmut representing the NSC and the Sports Minister, Engineer Sani Ndanusa stood in for the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) family among other dignitaries.

Nigeria Basketball Federation benchmark for 2011

1. The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Executive Board meet in Abuja on Wednesday January 5, 2011 to delibrate on its 2011 programme of activities and review its performance in 2010.

2. Far reaching decisions were taken during the meeting which was followed by the inaugural meeting of the new DStv Premier Basketball League Board on Thursday January 6, 2011.

3. In addition to approving its activities for 2011, the following decisions were taken by the NBBF Executive Board.

(i) A National U16 (Men and Women) tournament to start with zonal preliminaries was instituted with effect from 2011.

(ii) A National Open Women Championship to start at two conference levels and to end with a national final was approved.

(iii) There will also be the National Division-One Championship for promotion of teams to the DStv Premier Basketball League while a Division-Two is being considered.

(iv) A Coaches/Players Education programme at the age group level with the aim of institutionalising a National Basketball Philosophy was approved.

(v) The International programmes involving the Senior Men and Women National Teams at the continental level and the FIBA World U19 Championship for Women were endorsed.

(vi) The Head Coaches of the Senior Men and Women National Teams from the 2009 Afrobasket (Coaches John Lucas and Ayo Bakare) were retained to ensure continuity and provide an opportunity to complete the foundation laid.

(vii) The NBBF Board also endorsed the January 29, 2011 commencement date of the 2010/2011 DStv Premier Basketball League Season as presented to it for consideration

Former director of scouting for the Dallas Mavericks, Amadou Fall is now the CEO of NBA Africa. It is up exclusively for Fiba Africa on the objectives of the NBA in Africa with Basketball Without Borders in particular.

Why the NBA decided to settle in Africa ?
We had an experience in South Africa. Since 2003, we organized Basketball Without Borders in Johannesburg. And, for the first time we were in Dakar (Senegal). We want to develop basketball and NBA in Africa. All the people want to see sports in general and basketball in particular.

What's the goal of the NBA ?
Our goal is to improve structures. We want more basketball players. Now, our games will broadcast on the TV in Senegal for the first time. We're working with young players and coaches. We want to improve them.
The aim is to organize NBA games in Africa.

It will be preseason games?
At the beginning, yes. This year, we'll have some games in London. We're working on this project.

Which actions did you make since you settle in Africa?
We have NBA Cares since 2005. We built 30 basketball courts. Our aim is to use basketball as a positive social change.
With Adidas, and Nike, we welcomed NBAs coaches such as Triano, Carlisle, Hollins and Lance Ebanks the new GM of Phoenix and we are proud to have Masai Ujiri, who is the GM of the Nuggets.

What is the reaction of NBA franchises from Africa? Their look has changed?
They are always open with foreign players. It's usual to have European, African players in the league. Before, we had African players such as Olajuwon, 2 times NBAs champion, Dikembe Mutombo and his long career... In the last 20 years, we had at least 25 African players playing in NBA. But it's more difficult to follow a player in Africa than in Europe. We hope more young players will come in the USA when they're young and then come back in Africa.

The biggest problem in Africa is not the political situation?
Personally, I think the biggest problem is the structures. There are a lot of arenas in Africa which aren't overcast. So it's difficult to organize big events.

In its bid to better Nigeria basketball the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF will Monday hold an important talk with a would-be sponsor in London.

The NBBF was invited to the One-Day exploratory meeting with the potential investors in Nigerian Basketball. The meeting which is being organized by MD Sports Management is sceduled to hold between 11.00am and 3.00pm at the Air France Conference Centre, World Cargo Centre, Bidg 558, Shoreham Road, Heathrow Airport, TW6 3RN.

The Federation will be represented by its president, Tijjani Umar and a board member Yusuf Tagwai at the all important meeting.

The duo of President Umar and Tagwai who left the country on Sunday morning for the meeting are expected back on Tuesday so as to be on ground for the January 21-23 Stakeholders meeting slated for the auditorium of the National Institute for Sports in Abu

Kerr was minimally recruited out of high school because he could not jump and was two steps slower than other point guards.^[3] Kerr played basketball for the University of Arizona from 1983 to 1988. (born October 2, 1981) is a Lebanese American professional basketball player who currently plays for Hebraica y Macabi in Uruguay. Freije attended Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, Kansas before attending Vanderbilt University where he was an All-SEC performer. Jackson Vroman
(born June 6, 1981 in Laguna, California) is a Lebanese American professional basketball player. He was naturalized as a Lebanese citizen to play in the Lebanon national basketball team, substituting the other naturalized American Lebanese player, Joe Vogel. He is the son of former NBA player Brett Vroman, who played briefly for the Utah Jazz in the 1980-81 NBA season.
His senior year in high school, he played at Viewmont High School in Bountiful, Utah for coach Emery. Texters escape Llamados

Friday, January 24 -

Talk and Text Tropang Texters survived a furious rally in the 4th quarter by the reigning All-Filipino Cup Champions, Derby Ace Llamados, finishing the game with a score of 98-91.

Explosive guard Jimmy Alapag led the Texter's charge with a 21 point, eight assist performance capped off by a crucial trey plus a free throw to give the number-one seed a seven point, 94-87 advantage in the closing minute.
Llamados ace James Yap led all scorers with a conference-high 33 points in the losing effort.

In the 1st half, the Texters immediately took charge, firing from all cylinders to break the tough defense of the Llamados, but were unable to stop "King" James Yap from scoring eight of his 33 points.
Six-foot five Power Forward Ranidel de Ocampo, despite having only played five games this conference due to an operation in his left ankle, exploded for 16 points, hitting all four of his treys to give the Texters a 12-point cushion, 54-42, going into halftime.

The story was the same in the 3rd quarter as the Texters increased their lead to 19 in the third. That was when the Llamados struck back. They fought back and actually reduced the lead to three before Jimmy Alapag's heroics.

The next games will be on January 5, 5PM (Philippine time) in a PBA double-header at the Araneta Coliseum. The Texters, leading 1-0 in the series, will again face the Llamados in the first game, followed by the much anticipated first game of the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings vs San Miguel Beermen at 7PM.
